Omaha
Poker
Omaha
High
(to differentiate it from
Omaha Hi Lo)
is a
community card game similar to
Texas Hold'em,
with two differences:

Each player
receives four face-down cards (called "hole" or "pocket"
cards) to start.

At the
showdown each player must use exactly two of their four
hole cards and combine them with exactly three community
cards.
Betting
in Limit Omaha Games
The maximum allowable number of bets
during any particular betting round in Limit games is
four. This would consist of (1) a bet, (2) a raise, (3)
a re-raise, and (4) a cap. The term cap is used to
describe the 3rd raise in a round since betting is then
capped and cannot be raised anymore. Sequence of action
for Omaha High
Preflop

Dealer button is moved to the dealer (also called the
"button").

The player to the left of the button posts the small
blind.

The player second to the left of the button posts the
big blind.

Four hole cards are dealt to every player.

First betting round. The player on the left of the
player who posted the big blind acts first. For the
first 2 rounds, the lower limit of the stakes is used,
e.g., if the stakes are $4/$8, then the bets would be
$4. See Betting for more details on how betting
works.
The
Flop

Three cards are dealt face-up in the middle of the board
("the flop")

Second betting round. Betting for all rounds after the
first one begins with the player to the left of the
button (the player who posted the small blind).
The
Turn

One more community card is dealt face-up.

Third betting round. This time the bets are made in
increments of the higher limit of the stakes, so in the
above example, players would make bets and raises of $8.
The
River

A fifth and final card is dealt face-up.

Fourth betting round. Again the higher limit amount is
used for bets.
The
Showdown
When
the final betting round is complete the remaining
players (if there is more that one player remaining who
hasn't folded) must show their cards to see who wins the
pot. (See Poker Hand Rankings for an explanation of the
hierarchy of poker hands.)
The player that was called last must show their cards
first and then the remaining players, in subsequent
order, have the option to fold or show their cards. In
the event that 2 or more players have equal high hands
the pot is split between the players.
